Years ago I knew a woman who lost significant weight following bypass surgery, only to turn to compulsive gambling which seemed even more destructive than the weight had been. She was drinking as well.

I know that if I had to give up food, I would need a strong recovery program in order to avoid simply replacing it with something else. In fact years ago I switched from smoking pot to overeating and gained 100 lbs.

In desperation, I have recently begun to consider weight loss surgery, so this article comes just in the nick of time for me. Without food and without real recovery, I will likely just turn to something else, perhaps something even more unhealthy.

Thanks for the insight. Best of luck to you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18440943.post-45170955791849548432010-09-10T22:35:45.308-04:002010-09-10T22:35:45.308-04:00I was very worried about all of you..am less so no...I was very worried about all of you..am less so now. I think some people are prone to addiction and in some ways food is actually not as destructive as some others. And I am not surprised they are regonizing and researching these linkages.

And I understand the grieving process that you go through.

Good luck, and yes, brave decision as mamacrow says,
sinsinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00082648132476803815noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18440943.post-13413422498560884812010-09-10T16:14:25.501-04:002010-09-10T16:14:25.501-04:00hugs. Reading here, hearing you describe how sad and unfulfilled your life would be without drinking, seeing you totally unable, or unwilling, to consider living without it certainly gave me concern that perhaps this was more than a problem to be controlled. I did hope perhaps the time you spent working unsuccessfully was helping frame the scope of the problem for you, and therefore, the solution. So many are pulling for you all, and wishing you well. Stay strong, and keep on with your difficult work. Good thoughts for you all.Impish1noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18440943.post-47212467507653315972010-09-10T10:40:43.384-04:002010-09-10T10:40:43.384-04:00I am SO relieved that you are finding information ...I am SO relieved that you are finding information to help you.. and that you are now on a path to improved health and living :)

Hang in there.. the road will still be a bit bumpy .. but I know you can do this !!!

morningstarmorningstarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01500052225655763353noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18440943.post-26618248875644059022010-09-10T09:07:08.740-04:002010-09-10T09:07:08.740-04:00wow - some interesting stuff there, Tom.

Since becoming sober i have put both the money i would have spent on drinking and the braincells i would have lost, to good use and returned to tertiary education.

i look forward to reading of YOUR exploits in this new chapter of your life :)

congratulations to you and big hugs to swan and T

:) weirdgirlweirdgirlnoreply@blogger.com
