And What Else is Happening?

Lest anyone think that the House of Heron has ONLY  been hanging out at the hospital, let me remind you that things were "hanging" on my patio this summer...

Well, that was back in May, and this is the first weekend in August.  Days and days of faithful watering and regular feedings have begun to yield a harvest.  I have tomatoes from tiny, dark, cherry tomatoes to HUGE big heirloom monsters that weigh close to a pound.  We sliced up one of those big, beauties to put on sandwiches tonight, and it was ... so..... tomato-y.  Wow!

I know it isn't exciting to anyone else, but...

  1. Oh TOMATOES,

I would be excited too! There are few things better than a home-grown tomato.

    Jealous!

  2. There is just something so fulfilling at a very basic level in growing something from scratch. Seems to make it more enjoyable in the mouth. I derive much the same satisfaction from preparing meals from scratch instead of using convenience foods.

Enjoy those tomatoes as you continue to care for T. Thoughts and prayers to all of you, always.

    Peace

There's nothing as perfect as a successful tomato story! I'm in awe. My efforts in GA have not gone well. Either they rot, dry up or get eaten by the roving deer (and I'm in the middle of a suburb). My favorite sandwich as a child was peanut butter, mayo and tomato - sprinkled with a dab of salt. In the winter, the tomato was switched out for pickles! I know sounds a whole lot odd. Give it a try! Fabulous! Thanks so much for sharing. Brings back lovely memories this happy Sat morning. Blessings to the Heron Clan, and especially T on her recovery.

    1. I've had no luck with growing them in the ground or in pots. This "topsy turvy" hanging approach is the only thing I've found that keeps the various predatory pests away.

  4. I think fresh tomatoes are one of my very very favourite things. Tomato sandwiches with mayo on brown bread, with salt and pepper. Yum. I want one.

I want to see a photo of what it looks like on your patio now too, with all the planter baskets kind of overflowing.

    1. LOL, kaya. Yes. You caught me. There are also peppers growing out there, too. Just my hurried, drive by, posting style that left out that detail. Duh. Haven't tried any of those yet. But probably in the next day or two.
