This is my little, homey Christmas tree. It went up just before Thanksgiving, way back in November -- and (minus the presents underneath) it is still up. That is because Master likes it that way. In a normal year, our Christmas trees stay up until after the Superbowl. That is, according to the One who makes these decisions, the official end of the Christmas season. Even then, the taking down of the Christmas tree makes Him sad...
Well, this is not shaping up to be a normal year.
We have just had our first consultation with the Bariatric Surgeon, and it seems we are proceeding with gastric bypass surgery for Master, AND, most likely, we will also see T enter into the program just a few weeks behind Him. This year, our household is going to make some major AFFIRMATIVE CHOICES about vastly improved health and well-being. We are holding onto one another, looking toward our future, and moving forward under the care of a man who seems to be a very good, caring, concerned, and open physician.
So, as I sit here this afternoon, in my quiet living room, looking at my little Christmas tree, I have made a "high-level executive" decision (understanding that slaves don't get to do that sort of thing -- so sue me). As of today, I am declaring that this entire year is Christmas in this family. Christmas makes Him happy, and I absolutely believe this will be the year that we give ourselves the gift of a happier and much longer future together...
The little tree is staying put. Right where it is. We'll light the lights as long as we need to -- until everyone is through the surgery, recovered, healthy, strong, and way lighter -- we'll keep the season shining. And if, friends, you want to join in the fun, you don't have to keep your tree up (or put it back up either). Just light a light in your hearts for our family. This Year is Christmas.

swan, that was just lovely. I am so very happy for all of you! Even though I know surgery is scary, to have this sort of medical intervention available which affords your family a new lease on health (which will = happiness)...well how wondrous!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have a set end to the Christmas season. Super Bowl Sunday just marks the end of my being a "football widow"/ Our tree is already gone, but I did, just this morning, decide to leave our lit pine swags on the porch, because they look so nice in the dreariness of winter. Now I will think of you and yours when I see it!
Merry Christmas for all of 2009 to the Swan clan!

Christmas all year long...what a fabulous idea!!!
ReplyDeleteSwan,
ReplyDeleteThat was lovely. By all means, keep the spirit of Christmas (and the tree) as long as your family needs it.
Good thoughts to all of you.
Hugs,
Hermione
Sending you all positive energy and well-wishes. I have something for you here: http://tapestry41.blogspot.com/2009/01/for-heron-clan.html

Sometimes it is just TOO Freaky how often we "Share the brain", Sister-Heart.... Last night, I was exhausted....long work week, topped by all the medical crap we have been doing...
ReplyDeleteLaying in bed with Pranzer, I decided I just didn't have the energy to tear down the MONSTER tree, so it was going to stay up. Maybe I will bring it down in the spring or summer...
Now I read this and figure...what the hell!? Christmas for the year for my Be-Be.... I can do that.
T..who is off to get a "Can-O-Air" so she can dust off the tree occasionally!
I think this is a lovely idea. We often get stuck doing things because we should...or because everyone else does. As far as I know, its not illegal to have Christmas every day of the year, and if it is, I promise to either visit or send you all a suitably sharp file wrapped in a very low calorie Christmas cake!!!
ReplyDeleteSo glad the news from the physician was positive....I will be keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers as you move forward with all of this.
lots of love and big hugs to you, Tom and T xxx
What a wonderful idea and an uplifting message for your family. Thanks also for a well - timed message when I needed it. I read this sitting up because I could not sleep, across from the tree that was depressing me so because we had not been able to get it down yet. We are in the middle of parent emergencies that started with an ER visit, advanced to hospitalization and rehab, and will lead to living and management problems with seemingly no way to keep it all covered. Your determination and strength will see your family through; I'm so glad you've found a dr you feel is right, Will keep your family close, hope you don't mind if I try to grab a bit of that grit for myself right now, mine's running a little low.
ReplyDeleteSwan,
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet post. I hope all goes well with both Tom's and T's surgeries.
