So, yesterday, He called the doctor. He got the receptionist on the phone, gave her the list of symptoms, and within just a few hours, she was back with the news that they were phoning a prescription for an antibiotic into the pharmacy. Nothing to it. Done.
I had been thinking that I was feeling some better, but last night was just awful, so this morning, He insisted that I call the doctor myself. We see the exact same doctors in the exact same practice. So, I called. Gave the receptionist the list of symptoms, identical to His.
AND?
She told me that she could make me an appointment to see the doctor. Really? OK. I guess. It makes a little bit of sense. Master has been in way more often in the last few months. They have seen Him a lot in the aftermath of His surgery, so maybe it is about being "unfamiliar" with my case...after all, it has been 3 whole months since they got an office visit fee from me! So, I grumbled, but agreed to make an appointment. That appointment? Scheduled for July 8 -- on week from today.
I am furious! Well, I'd be furious if I were well enough to generate that much energy. By the time a week goes by, I'll either be well or I'll be in the hospital. Either way, I am sure as HELL not going to be paying the worthless doctor a fee for an office visit. That just burns my butt! GRRRRRR...

I'm really shocked that they prescribed antibiotics for Tom over the phone like that. Doctors have become very wary of giving out antibiotics since they have over-prescribed them for decades and now we are faced with the ever-lessening ability for them to work.
ReplyDeleteAs a result, they don't give them out anymore unless they feel it's really urgent and absolutely necessary. I'm assuming they gave them to Tom because of the surgery he had, the resulting infection and they don't want to take chances.
But with you, it's like the rest of us; unless you have an actual infection of some kind from the virus you had/have, they're not giving you any. And they are right not to, because if you do not have a secondary infection from the original virus, antibiotics don't help. They still have no cure for viruses, only the infections that follow.
I understand it's annoying, though, I do. Frustrating, too.
Lash just had surgery on his arm yesterday and we're going through the whole appointment, prescription, leave a message, wait, wait, wait thing. Very frustrating!! Hope you feel better soon! This has hung on a long time. Take Care, Meow
ReplyDeleteA year and a half ago I had pneumonia and my Dr was too busy to see me until 1-2 weeks later.
ReplyDeleteSo I took myself to the local Patient First where they were able to do all needed lab work, xrays, and everything in one place, prescribe the meds needed, (and fill the prescription) and send me home to rest.
While I was there I learned that I could make them my Primary Care Provider. I did. And have never regretted it since.
This past winter when my gall bladder went bad, they took such very good care of me, ran all the needed tests, and sent me to an excellent surgeon.
It's just such a breath of fresh air in the medical world to have a walk-in, no appointment needed, quality Doctors on staff facility that actually wants to serve and care for the patients.
We can even check to see when the Dr we chose is working, and go in to see him specifically, but if it's an urgent care issue, any and all of the doctors will take care of us, and all have access to our records.
I wish you healing and health, and the type of care that makes the patient the priority.
Peace

Did you protest a bit and push for an earlier appointment? That's the part I often am not great at...
ReplyDeleteDo you think we are just too submissive? Maybe we should get the Doms to phone the doctor!
Feel better,
